Dave Gray's "Goiter" Unicycle
Dave Gray showed off the current state of his off-road unicycle (aka "the pig on crack"!) with the monster 26 x 4" tire that he brought to the last meeting. He has a lot more miles on it by now and has experimented a lot with tire pressures and different crank lengths. The usable pressure range is about 5 psi to 40 psi, but mostly he runs from 12 to 28 psi and says anything above that is hard as a rock and unnecessary even for long street rides.

He uses 175 mm cranks in the dirt for torque and shorter ones on the road for a faster spin and higher cruising speeds. He was asked about building up a unicycle with a Schlumpf two speed hub, but he says they are only available in Schlumpf's own unicycle for now (with a non-standard hub spacing), it would be expensive, and he has reservations about any setup that would let you get going any faster than you could outrun if you stepped off the front (which does occasionally happen with a unicycle, especially when you least expect it!).
