Mark Stonich's Raleigh Recumbent
He converted the Sturmey-Archer AW 3-speed hub to an S5 type five speed, which just requires a few parts to be changed out and a left side shifter to be added. He doesn't expect to get much use out of the higher high. But, he's not been riding well this year and figures he'll need the lower low for climbing The Dreaded Lake City Hill.

The S5 uses a pushrod and a bellcrank to select between wide and medium ranges. Most of them came with a flimsy bent metal bellcrank that would be an embarrassment in an Erector Set, much less on an "All Steel Bicycle" from Nottingham. Jon Sharratt gave me this lovely machined piece instead. Bruce Morrow gave me the in-line spring setup that makes shifting more reliable. I've since devised a 13/32" x 26 tpi tap from an old Sturmey axle, so I can modify the somewhat less rare Shimano bellcrank to fit. Mark
