Chad Parrish showed a KHS Cappucino folding bike he bought as a “marina bike” for carrying on his sailboat and using to get around places where he stops for supplies or overnights. It is a 2005 model that has since been discontinued (though Carl says the current model is still pretty similar).
He bought it on a closeout deal for $329, compared to a list price over $400.
It has no clamp to hold it in the folded position and he wondered if we could suggest anything better than a plain old bungee cord? Probably not, though Dave suggested combining that with a shoulder strap to make carrying it easier.
The tires are a weird 18 inch (455 ETRTO) size with a very low pressure rating, so he hopes to locate some better replacements. It also has a small amount of rear suspension movement that absorbs some of the jolts. It has one protected chainring on the front and a 7 speed derailleur on the back. It folds fairly quickly and has a neat wire center stand under the bottom bracket for parking it upright when folded.
