Jeff Caswell's New MicroBike Project

He is having a number of small bits (such as an adjustable handlebar mounting bracket) laser cut by a local guy who is willing to do almost any size run and could easily work from Jeff's AutoCAD drawings. Jeff went with runs of 25 parts, which seemed pretty bold to many people considering this is a revised design that is essentially still a prototype! This led to a digression among several members about the comparisons between laser cutting, plasma cutting, water jet cutting, and CNC machining. Lasers are less expensive than some of the others and have little risk of warping the part because the cutting heat is so localized, but it is somewhat less accurate than the alternatives.
