As I write this, it's almost 2 months since the meeting occured, so I'm sure I'm forgetting some of what was discussed.
I do remember that we talked about the recent ice races, and I showed two short videos.
The 1st one I taped off of Chanell 9 - M. A. Roscoe did a nice piece on the Ice Racers built by the St. Thomas students. The other was the Today Show segment with Luke Breen, on the ice at Rockefeller center, with a couple of Ice Bikes. The anchors, Soledad O'Brien and David Bloom raced them around cones on the ice. They appeared to be having great fun, although Soledad was having trouble controlling her BikeE based mount. She ran it into the boards once and then dumped it, but wouldn't quit. Luke said she hadn't been on a bike in 20 years, so she must be pretty gutsy. David, a former Edina High School hockey player, had no trouble on Ron Cooper's Ice Birdy. Luke talked about his experiences on the show, and afterward. 15 minutes after the segment, the Space Shuttle Columbia broke up on re-entry. Luke and Mary were there as everyone went from "Fluff Piece" mode, to being very serious journalists. Not something they're ever likely to forget. |
